Endowment Fund

How can I get involved?

Just like the soldiers who attended reunions at Wilson’s Creek in the years after the Civil War, we continue to ask the question, “Who will preserve and protect the battlefield when we are gone?”

To ensure that our efforts continue in years to come, the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation has become an Endowment Partner with the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO). Funds designated for endowment are placed with the CFO, which in turn invests them in a carefully managed Endowment Fund. Since the establishment of the fund in 2002, we have been able to generate additional funds through this investment process each year. While the principal sum that has been gifted to the Foundation remains untouched, a portion of the annual earnings can flow back to the organization as an income stream. As we are building this fund, interest earned is added to the principal so that it can grow even more.

An endowment fund helps ensure financial stability, facility improvements, long-range planning, and a predictable income source for the future. The endowment fund is also a powerful, effective vehicle for a donor who wishes to fulfill charitable dreams and to continue responding to preservation efforts beyond a single lifetime.

There are a variety of ways to support Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation’s endowment:

  • Cash contributions
  • Gifts of appreciated assets
  • Bequest
  • Charitable remainder annuity trusts or unitrusts
  • Gifts of life insurance
  • Proceeds received at maturity from a stripped bond

Individuals are encouraged to consult their tax advisors for specific information. The Wilson’s Creek Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Ozarks will be pleased to work with your attorney, accountant, or financial advisor to help you reach your goal of a lasting gift that will help preserve our nation’s heritage.
