Continuing a Proud Tradition
Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation looks to the future while we continue our efforts to preserve the past. We welcome new community partners who share our commitment to protecting local history and passing it on to future generations.
On the occasion of its 140th anniversary, Wilson’s Creek began a new chapter, breaking ground for an 8,200 square foot library and research annex. Completed in 2003, this annex includes a
climate controlled rare book room for safeguarding precious volumes, shelving and storage to accommodate the growing collection of historic publications, a workspace for researchers and archivists, and a multi-purpose/education room for more than 8,000 school children who visit annually.
Since 2003, the Foundation has completed several other major projects including
- The reconstruction of the Edward’s cabin
- Sidewalk markers listing events of the Civil War leading up to and after the Battle of Wilson’s Creek
- Rehabilitation of the Visitor Center fiber-optic map
- Production of a new interpretive film to tell the story of the battle with the use of 21st century film techniques
While working with the National Park Service to accomplish these past projects, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation has also continued to move forward toward the realization of even greater potential with several new and exciting projects:
- Preservation of adjacent land that affects the battlefield’s historic and visual integrity
- Construction of a museum addition to house the newly acquired Sweeney collection
- Purchase of cannons and limbers to mark battle lines and capture the conflict’s scope
- Establishment of an endowment fund to address future needs
Since its establishment in 1950, the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation has depended on the dedication and generosity of individuals and businesses who share our vision of preserving this important piece of America’s history for future generations. We invite you to join in our efforts by making a financial contribution in support of Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, a revered landmark and living legacy.
